Attending CarFest in a campervan is the perfect way to experience the ultimate festival weekend. From live music and inspiring guest speakers to classic car displays and delicious food, this family-friendly event offers something for everyone.
In this post, we’ll share our experience of taking a Road Drifter T6.1 campervan to CarFest, and why we believe a campervan is the best way to fully enjoy everything the festival has to offer, come rain or shine!
CarFest was created by radio presenter Chris Evans for the sole purpose of raising funds for hugely deserving charities – mainly Children in Need. Now in its 17th year, CarFest is a fantastic family festival with classic cars, cookery, comedy, adventure and music.
The evening music over the three nights is always the festival highlight. This year we saw Beverley Knight, UB40, Olly Murs, Deacon Blue, Richard Ashcroft, and Sam Ryder to name but a few. Famous faces such as astronaut Tim Peake, Deborah Meaden of Dragons’ Den, Jay Blades of The Repair Shop and Rob Brydon the comedian all gave inspirational talks over the weekend, too.
We have been fortunate over the last few years to be invited to attend and take our classic car to be displayed on the Triumph TR Register stand. So, what better vehicle to take than a Road Drifter Rental T6.1 for a great weekend of camping and festival activities?
Our VWT6.1 DSG with its 150bhp engine and automatic gearbox gave us a smooth and relaxing drive down to the venue in Hampshire. We joined the rest of our group from around the UK who were camping with a mixture of caravans, campervans and tents.
Wet, windy and unseasonably cold weather (especially for an August bank holiday) makes camping challenging, particularly for people in tents, but with Webasto diesel heating and a very comfortable double bed in our Road Drifter, we were cosy and warm.
A 150-watt roof-mounted solar panel ensured that we had ample power for our fridge and lights, while a Vango Como airbeam awning gave us a great outside space for entertaining. Our main cooking was done on a Cadac Safari Chef gas BBQ – check these out (a must for any camping situation). Proper meals can be cooked on this BBQ, saving on the huge cost of festival food. Finally, a Porta Potti tucked discreetly in the side of the awning took away the horrors of festival toilets.
So how did everyone fare? Well, it’s safe to say everyone had a fantastic time. It’s an event we would highly recommend, especially when done in a campervan like the Road Drifter. We were certainly very comfortable – dry, warm and well-fed. The two tents on either side of us did struggle, with one of them now residing in a dustbin in Hampshire!
Festivals, motoring events, equestrian events, and sporting weekends are all ideal venues to enjoy your campervan. Better yet, when you come home and unpack, you’ll have a fantastic daily vehicle in your driveway, be it for the school run, business commute, or road trips.
